How contact discovery works
When discovery runs for a company (either manually or as part of the overnight background worker):- The system identifies which personas are relevant based on your prospecting configuration.
- For each persona, it searches for people at the company matching the department, job level, and title keyword criteria.
- Matching contacts are enriched with email addresses and LinkedIn profile URLs.
- Employment status is checked — contacts who have left the company are flagged.
How People connect to other features
| Feature | Connection |
|---|---|
| Prospecting task generation | Tasks are generated targeting contacts from the People list that match the motion’s personas |
| Company Agent | The agent references discovered people when answering questions about the account |
| Personas | Persona definitions control which contacts get discovered and how they are categorized |
Constraints
- Contact data is sourced from your CRM, LinkedIn, and enrichment providers. Completeness depends on available public data.
- Email enrichment runs asynchronously — newly discovered contacts may show “Enriching” status for a short period before email becomes available.
- Discovery results depend on persona quality. Broad personas produce more contacts but with more noise. See the Personas documentation for guidance on writing effective persona definitions.
FAQ
The system periodically checks employment status. When a contact’s current employer no longer matches the company, they are flagged as having left. These contacts remain visible but are deprioritized for outreach.
Why don't I see any people for a company?
Why don't I see any people for a company?
Contact discovery runs when company context is generated — either manually from the Agent tab or automatically by the overnight worker. If context has not been generated yet, the People tab may be empty. Trigger context generation first.
Can I manually add contacts?
Can I manually add contacts?
Contacts are discovered automatically based on personas. To find specific types of contacts, create or refine a persona targeting the right department and seniority, then re-generate.
How often are contacts refreshed?
How often are contacts refreshed?
Contact data is refreshed when company context is regenerated. The overnight worker handles this automatically. You can also trigger a manual re-generation at any time.
Email enrichment depends on external providers and may take longer for some contacts. If a contact remains in “Enriching” status for more than 24 hours, the email may not be available through current enrichment sources.
